Hillsdale Ring Terminals

A Solid And Quick Connection

These Hillsdale Terminals Ring Terminals simply fit over a stud and are secured in place with a nut to hold them in place and conduct electricity. They are connected to any wire of the correct gauge by slipping the exposed end of the wire into the end of the insulation, and crimping it in place so that the wire contacts the metal inside. An additional crimp can also be made to the end of the insulation creating an extra point of contact between the wire insulation and terminal insulation creating a stronger hold.

What Are Ring Terminals?

Ring terminals, also known as ring connectors or ring lugs, are a type of electrical connector used to terminate or connect wires to a screw or stud terminal. They are called "ring" terminals because of their shape, which resembles a circular ring or eyelet.

The ring terminal's circular shape allows it to be easily connected to a screw or stud terminal, which is commonly found in electrical equipment and devices such as circuit breakers, transformers, and control panels. The ring terminal is slipped over the screw or stud and secured by tightening the screw or nut onto the terminal. This creates a secure, low-resistance connection that can handle high currents and voltages.

Insulated Vs. Non-Insulated Ring Terminals

Insulated Ring Terminals have a layer of insulating material, typically made of vinyl or nylon, around the metal barrel. The insulation provides an extra layer of protection against electrical shock, short circuits, and other hazards, and also helps to prevent corrosion and moisture damage. Insulated ring terminals are recommended for use in applications where there is a risk of exposed metal coming into contact with people or other conductive materials, or where the environment is damp or corrosive.

Non-Insulated Ring Terminals, on the other hand, do not have an insulating layer around the metal barrel. They are typically made of bare copper or brass and are less expensive than insulated ring terminals. Non-insulated ring terminals are suitable for use in dry environments where there is no risk of electrical shock or short circuits.
