Raychem® Heatshrinkable Boots

Raychem® Heat shrink boots provide a high quality standard of automotive and engine boots by sealing directly onto connector accessory threads. This process does not require special tools beyond a heat gun, and provides a snug and secure seal that prevents damage or riding on metal or plastic hose, cable, and engine assembly sections. These boots are available either lipped or non-lipped, and available either straight or bent. These variations allow for the perfect fit onto whatever application currently requires this heatshrinking seal.

What Is A Heatshrinkable Boot (Shrink Boot)?

Raychem® Heat shrinkable boots are a type of electrical insulation and protection product designed to cover and seal electrical connections and components while also providing strain relief. Shrink boots are molded and provide a great alternative to metal backshells.

Shrink boots are commonly used in applications such as telecommunications, automotive, aerospace, and industrial environments, where protecting the electrical connections from moisture, dust, and other contaminants is critical.

In addition to providing excellent electrical insulation and protection, Raychem® Heat shrinkable boots are also easy to install. They can be quickly & easily applied using a heat gun, ensuring that the electrical component is sealed and protected in a matter of minutes.

How Do You Install Shrink Boots?

Installing a shrink boot is a straightforward and easy process. Just follow these simple steps:

Step 1: Choose The Correct Size Boot. Make sure you select the correct size of shrink boot that will fit snugly over the component you want to protect. Shrink boots are available in various sizes, so choose the one that best matches the diameter of the component you will need to shrink around.

Step 2: Prepare The Component. Ensure that the component you want to cover with the shrink boot is clean and dry. Remove any dirt, dust, or grease that may be present on the surface. You can use a clean cloth or alcohol wipes to do this.

Step 3: Slide The Boot On. Slide the shrink boot over the connector, making sure it covers the entire length of the area you want to protect.

Step 4: Apply Heat. Use a heat gun to apply heat evenly to the shrink boot. Start at one end and work your way down to the other end. Hold the heat gun about 3-4 inches away from the boot and continue to move it around to evenly heat the entire surface. As you apply heat, the boot will begin to shrink & conform to the shape of the connector. Continue to apply heat until the boot has completely shrunk & fits tightly.

Step 5: Cool Down. After the boot has fully shrunk, let it cool down completely before handling it to prevent burns. This will ensure that it sets in place and forms a tight seal around the connector.

That's it! However, it's important to note that the specific instructions may vary depending on the type of shrink boot you are using, so it's always a good idea to review the manufacturer's detailed specifications before beginning installation.
