Shrinkflex® Heatshrink Boots

Heat shrink breakout boots are designed to protect and insulate multiple wires or cables that branch out from a single point. These boots provide a weather tight seal at the junction points as well as some straight relief. In the event that one cable or wire needs to be repaired or replaced, breakout boots can make it easier to identify and gain access the affected cable or wire without having to disturb the others.

STEP ONE: Choose the appropriate size heat shrink breakout boot for your application. Make sure it is large enough to fit over the cables you wish to protect. Make sure the shrink ratio allows enough shrink ability to provide a tight seal after shrinking.

STEP TWO: Slide the shrink boot over the cables & wires making sure that each one is properly positioned in its slot.

STEP THREE: Use a heat gun or other heat tool to begin applying heat across the boot. Keep moving the heat source back and forth across the entirety of the boot to ensure a consistent shrink. As the heat is applied the boot will begin to shrink and conform to the cables.

STEP FOUR: After the boot has stopped shrinking & has a consistent tight fit you can stop applying heat. Allow the shrink boot to fully cool before handling.

The shrink ratio is the approximate maximum amount that heatshrink tubing will shrink relative to the unshrunk diameter. For example, a piece of 3/4" heatshrink tubing with a 3:1 shrink ratio will shrink down to a maximum diameter of approximately 1/4" when fully shrunk. All heatshrink tubing on our site is specified in it's UNSHRUNK diameter, so consider the shrink ratio and the unshrunk diameter when ordering heatshrink tubing. Heatshrink tubing with a larger shrink ratio will be more forgiving when fitting the tubing over plugs or connectors, but will have a bit thicker wall thickness and slightly less flexibility when shrunk then a lower ratio product.
